Our History
Montana Health Federal Credit Union was organized and chartered as St. V’s Federal Credit Union in May 1964. Membership was designed to serve the employees of St. Vincent’s Hospital, as well as the employees of the offices of two local area doctors.
In January 1974, two additional healthcare facilities were added: Billings Clinic and Eastern Radiology Associates. In May 1974, Deaconess Hospital requested membership into St. V’s FCU. The charter changes were granted along with a name change to Billings Health Affiliated Federal Credit Union. From there, the board of the credit union actively added additional healthcare and healthcare related facilities, including United Blood Services, St. John’s Lutheran Nursing Home, Hospital Laundry Services, South Central Montana Regional Mental Health Center, and others. In all there are 40 select employer groups currently being served by Montana Health Credit Union, amounting to almost 3300 members.
These employer groups represent a broad range of employees related to the healthcare industry, from the laundry workers and maintenance departments of the largest hospitals in the state of Montana, to pharmacists, doctors, psychologists, and other professionals in private practice.
In October 2007, the board of directors petitioned the NCUA for a name change. The board requested and was granted a name change to Montana Health Credit Union.
In July 2008, Montana Health Credit Union was granted a charter change to a Trade, Industries, and Professions charter. The new charter expands the potential field of membership of the credit union to 20 Montana counties and 5 Wyoming counties. Anyone working in a healthcare profession is eligible to join the credit union. In 2017, the charter was expanded to include healthcare workers anywhere in the state of Montana.
In 2023, Montana Health entered into a partnership with Intrepid Credit Union to better serve healthcare workers. As of November 1st, 2023, the credit union changed its name to “Montana Health Credit Union, a division of Intrepid Credit Union” to better reflect this partnership.
